Tern Bike Size Chart

Tern is a Taiwanese folding and cargo bike brand founded in 2011. Its bikes use one frame with an adjustable seatpost and stem instead of a set of frame sizes. Tern fits a telescopic seatpost and an Andros or Speedlifter stem. Tern publishes a suggested rider height on every model page. The range changes between trims of one family, so read the listing for the exact trim you will buy.

Where Tern sizes sit

Used sizes share one height scale, so overlapping and identical ranges are visible before you read a single table.

Sizing guide

Tern sizing guide

Tern builds one frame per model and fits it with an adjustable seatpost and stem. The published height range changes with the trim.

  1. 01

One frame, one published range per model

Tern lists 10 models on this page. The ranges start at 142 cm on the Verge and Link and stop at 205 cm on the HSD S9i Sport. Every model is one frame with a telescopic seatpost, not a set of frame sizes. Two models can share a range and still produce a different fit, because the frame length and bar position change.

  2. 02

    The trim changes the range

Read the listing for the trim you will buy. Tern lists the GSD P10 for 150–200 cm and the GSD S10 for 153–200 cm. Tern lists the HSD P5i for 150–200 cm and the HSD S9i Sport for 153–205 cm. The frame is the same. The seatpost and stem differ. A 151 cm rider fits the GSD P10 and sits outside the GSD S10. Order the trim whose spec sheet lists your height.

  3. 03

The lowest range starts at 142 cm

Two models start at 142 cm. The Verge and the Link cover 142–190 cm. The Eclipse, the Node, and the Short Haul start at 147–148 cm. The cargo bikes start higher: the GSD and the HSD P5i at 150 cm, and the HSD S9i Sport at 153 cm. A 145 cm rider fits a Verge or a Link and sits outside the GSD range.

  4. 04

The highest range stops at 205 cm

Of the 10 models, 7 finish at 195 cm or higher. Verge covers 142–190 cm, Link covers 142–190 cm, Short Haul covers 147–190 cm, BYB covers 147–195 cm, Eclipse covers 148–195 cm, Node covers 148–195 cm, GSD P10 covers 150–200 cm, HSD P5i covers 150–200 cm, GSD S10 covers 153–200 cm, HSD S9i Sport covers 153–205 cm. A 198 cm rider fits the GSD P10, the HSD P5i, the GSD S10, and the HSD S9i Sport. The other 6 models stop below 198 cm. Check the maximum saddle height and the seatpost extension mark on the spec sheet for the trim you will buy.

  5. 05

The rider height range does not cover cargo

A Tern rider shares the frame with a passenger and a load. The rider height range says nothing about the gross vehicle weight. Read the maximum gross vehicle weight on the model page. Tern lists it for every bike. Match the rider, the passenger, and the cargo against that number before you buy. A bike that fits the rider can still fail the load limit.

  6. 06

Wheel sizes differ across the folding range

Tern builds the folding range on four wheel sizes. The BYB and the Link use a 20 inch wheel, the Verge uses 451, the Node uses 24 inch, and the Eclipse uses 26 inch. The wheel changes the rollover and the folded package. Read the wheel size with the height range. A 26 inch Eclipse rolls over rough pavement with less effort. A 20 inch BYB folds smaller.

  7. 07

Add a passenger after the frame fits

A cargo Tern carries one or two children. The rider height range and the passenger capacity are different numbers. Check the maximum gross vehicle weight, the rack limit, and the child seat compatibility on the model page. Set the saddle and bar height with the passenger aboard, because a loaded bike sits lower at the rear.

  8. 08

Set the saddle and bar height after delivery

The Andros stem and the Speedlifter stem adjust without tools. Set saddle height first, then bar height, then bar rotation. Sit on the bike with the ball of the foot on the pedal at the bottom of the stroke. The knee keeps a slight bend. Write down the seatpost number so a second rider can return to your position. Tern prints a scale on the seatpost for that.

How to measure

Height filters the chart. Cycling inseam decides which overlapping size to keep. The method is the same for every brand.

Height and inseam

Height

Take shoes off and stand tall, looking straight ahead. A helper should rest a flat object on the crown of your head, then run a tape from the floor to the underside of that object. Save the number in inches and centimeters. Charts use both.

Inseam

Stand tall and barefoot with feet slightly apart. Ask a helper to measure vertically from your crotch to the floor. Keep your legs straight and feet flat.

FAQ

  • What Tern bike size do I need?

Use your height on the Hybrid chart on this page. On the hybrid table, 153-200 cm sits in both GSD P10 and GSD S10. Cycling inseam and standover pick the side. Then check stack and reach for the exact Tern model.

  • Does this Tern chart apply to every model?

It is a brand-wide Hybrid starting range (GSD P10, GSD S10, HSD P5i on this page), not a substitute for the current model-year chart. Geometry, wheel size, and bar position can move the answer even when the height matches a size.

  • Which Tern sizes does this page list?

The Hybrid chart on this page includes GSD P10, GSD S10, HSD P5i (142-205 cm on the hybrid table). Verify the current Tern model chart on the official site before purchase.

  • Can two people share one Tern?

Yes. The telescopic seatpost and the adjustable stem move without tools. Note the seatpost number for each rider so both can return to a fit.

  • Which Tern folds smallest?

Tern lists the BYB as the ultra-compact folding bike and the Short Haul as a cargo bike that does not fold. Read the folded size on the model page.

  • What height fits a Tern GSD?

The GSD P10 covers 150–200 cm and the GSD S10 covers 153–200 cm. Read the listing for the trim you will buy.

  • Does Tern make frame sizes?

No. Tern builds one frame per model and fits it with a telescopic seatpost and an adjustable stem. The published rider height range is the size.

  • Why do two Tern trims list different heights?

The seatpost and stem change between trims. The HSD P5i covers 150–200 cm and the HSD S9i Sport covers 153–205 cm. The frame family is the same. Read the trim's spec sheet.
