Measuring inseam

Bike inseam is measured from the floor to your crotch in a riding stance, not the inside leg of your pants. The table sets the size from your height; the inseam sets your standover clearance.

How the answer is built

The brand's table decides the size.

The brand's own height range

Aventon and Canyon publish a rider height range for each e-bike model. The calculator reads that range, model by model.

No height multiplier

A rule of thumb turns an inseam into a frame number. This calculator returns the size a brand printed for the model you picked.

Height only

These tables publish rider height and no rider inseam. Your height sets the size, and your inseam sets the standover check.

One answer per published size

38 published sizes across 17 models. The result names the table it came from.

E-bike types

The type you pick decides which table the calculator reads.

A commuter e-bike keeps hybrid sizing and an electric mountain bike keeps mountain sizing. Pick the type you are shopping for, then read that brand's model.

Fit checks

The table sets the size. The model sets the fit.

The motor does not set your size

An e-bike carries a motor and a battery, so it is heavier than the same frame without them. That weight shows up at every stop. Your height still sets the size.

Put both feet flat at a stop before you buy.

Each e-bike type reads its own table

Commuter e-bike carries 20 sizes across 10 models, covering 150–200 cm. Electric mountain bike carries 13 sizes across 6 models, covering 160–195 cm. Electric road bike carries 5 sizes across 1 model, covering 165–198 cm.

Pick the type first, then the brand and the model.

Step-through frames sit lower

Aventon Aventure 3 covers 150–185 cm as a step-through frame and 160–195 cm as a step-over frame. Aventon Pace 5 publishes a step-through table only, from 152–190 cm.

Match the range to the frame version you are buying.

One size still carries a height range

Canyon Precede:ON Comfort 5 at 160–195 cm, Aventon Abound LR at 150–198 cm and Aventon Abound SR at 150–190 cm. A one-size frame still publishes a height range.

Confirm the saddle reaches your pedalling height.

Two sizes fit at one height

Canyon Spectral:ON CF 9 AXS publishes M up to 183 cm and L from 183 cm. Both labels are published for that rider.

Test ride both, then check standover on the lower frame.

The tables are height only

These tables carry a rider height range. They carry no stack, no reach, no weight limit and no saddle height, so open the geometry for the exact model and year before you buy.

Compare stack and reach in millimetres on the model you are buying.

Your inseam still has a job

Even where a table publishes no rider inseam, inseam decides whether you can stand over the frame. Measure it before the first ride.

Stand flat-footed over the top tube and keep a gap.

Before you calculate

Height sets the size. Inseam sets the standover check.

Measure barefoot, then keep both numbers. The published table sets the size from your height. Your inseam tells you whether you can stand over the frame.

  1. 01

    Height without shoes

Stand against a wall, look straight ahead, and mark the crown of your head. Measure floor to mark in centimetres.

  2. 02

    Inseam in a riding stance

Floor to crotch, not the inside leg of your pants. No table here uses it, so it is your standover check.

  3. 03

    Standover is the second check

Stand flat-footed over the top tube and keep a gap. No published table can tell you that part.

Measuring in feet and inches? The calculator converts both ways.

Height and inseam

Height

Stand against a wall without shoes, look straight ahead, and mark the crown of your head. Measure floor to mark in centimetres, then keep the number to the nearest half centimetre.

Inseam for standover

Floor to crotch in a riding stance, not the inside leg of your pants. No e-bike table here uses it for the size, so it is your standover check.

Questions

E-bike sizing questions, answered.

Answers from the same tables the calculator reads: 38 published sizes across 3 e-bike types.

What size e-bike do I need?

Match your height to the range the brand publishes for the model you are buying. Commuter e-bike sizes cover 150–200 cm. Electric mountain bike sizes cover 160–195 cm. Electric road bike sizes cover 165–198 cm.

What size e-bike fits a 5'2" rider?

5'2" (157 cm) sits inside 6 published sizes. Aventon Aventure 3 Step-Through Regular is one of them, and it covers 150–170 cm.

Is an e-bike sized differently from a regular bike?

Some brands publish a separate e-bike ladder and some reuse the acoustic one. Aventon and Canyon publish e-bike height ranges of their own, and Trek sizes the FX+ and Verve+ e-bikes on the same city table as the unpowered models. Read the table for the model you are buying.

Do e-bike brands publish a rider inseam?

No table this calculator reads publishes a rider inseam. Aventon and Canyon give a rider height range, so your height sets the size. The calculator keeps your inseam for the standover check.

What if I am between two e-bike sizes?

Canyon Spectral:ON CF 9 AXS puts M and L on the same 183 cm. Both are published sizes for that rider. Take the smaller frame when standover is tight, and the larger one when the cockpit feels short.

Are step-through e-bikes smaller?

Aventon Aventure 3 covers 160–195 cm as a step-over frame and 150–185 cm as a step-through frame. The lower frame changes the height range, not the wheel size.

Is there a one-size e-bike?

Yes. Canyon Precede:ON Comfort 5 covers 160–195 cm, Aventon Abound LR covers 150–198 cm and Aventon Abound SR covers 150–190 cm. Confirm the saddle and handlebar adjust to your height before buying.

What should I check after the calculator?

Confirm standover, saddle height, the weight limit and the model year on the exact bike. Aventon and Canyon refresh a table between model years, so a label from an older generation can name a different frame.

Change the type, watch the size move.

A commuter e-bike, an electric mountain bike and an electric road bike read three different tables. Switch the type, then switch the brand.
