Size chart

Chisel Hardtail size by height

Rider height is the size chart Specialized publishes for this frame. It publishes no rider inseam for the Chisel, so the table shows height only.

XS

4'10"–5'1"

148–155 cm

Smallest Chisel frame, with the lowest standover in the table at 732 mm.

S

5'2"–5'5"

Reach adds 20 mm over XS, and stack adds 14 mm.

M

Sizing notes

Why height alone is not enough

Riders with the same height can need different sizes because inseam, torso length, flexibility, and preferred handling differ.

3 checks

  1. Reach grows 95 mm from XS to XL while stack climbs 42 mm, so the hardtail gets longer about twice as fast as it gets taller.

  2. Standover climbs 115 mm across the ladder. The largest step is L to XL at 31 mm.

  3. Specialized leaves stack unchanged between S and M. A rider between those two sizes gets a longer front centre rather than a taller one.

Chisel Hardtail size chart FAQ

Short answers for Specialized Chisel Hardtail sizing.

What size Specialized Chisel should I ride?

Start with Specialized's height range: XS for 148–155 cm, S for 158–165 cm, M for 165–178 cm, L for 178–185 cm, and XL for 185–193 cm. Then confirm standover for the size you land on.

What size Chisel fits a 172 cm rider?

172 cm sits inside Specialized's M range of 165–178 cm. It carries 605 mm of stack, 430 mm of reach, and 792 mm of standover; S stops at 165 cm and L starts at 178 cm.

Does the Chisel come in an XS?

Yes. The Chisel Hardtail runs from XS to XL, and XS takes riders from 148 cm. A rider shorter than 148 cm is outside the published range.

How tall is a Specialized Chisel M for?

Specialized publishes Chisel M for 165–178 cm, which is 5'5"–5'10". It carries 605 mm of stack, 430 mm of reach, and 792 mm of standover.

Is the Chisel the same size as the Rockhopper?

No. The two frames publish separate height charts, so an M on one is not an M on the other. Check stack and reach on the model you are buying.
