Rockhopper uses Specialized's mountain alpha ladder, not S-Sizing, and the Comp frame runs XS to XXL. The geometry table publishes two column sets: 27.5-inch wheels for XS, S and M, and 29-inch wheels from S up. The numbers here are the 29-inch columns wherever the frame offers them.
Rockhopper Comp size finder
Height gives you one size, or two when the published height ranges overlap. Stack, reach, and standover settle the overlap.
Enter your height and the Rockhopper Comp size that covers it is marked in the tables below.
How to measureHeight gives the starting size. Standover and reach confirm it.
Height ranges
Height ranges for every Rockhopper Comp size, 138 to 210 cm overall. XS: 142 to 155 cm. S: 153 to 165 cm. M: 163 to 178 cm. L: 175 to 185 cm. XL: 183 to 195 cm. XXL: 193 to 206 cm.
Size chart
Rider height is Specialized's published Rockhopper chart. Specialized publishes no rider inseam for this family, so the table shows height only. XXS belongs to the Rockhopper 26, a different frame this ladder does not cover.
XS
4'8"–5'1"
142–155 cm
Smallest Comp frame, on 27.5-inch wheels, with the lowest standover in the ladder.
S
5'0"–5'5"
153–165 cm
The first size offered on 29-inch wheels; Specialized builds S in both wheel sizes.
M
5'4"–5'10"
163–178 cm
Most riders start here. Stack and reach above are for this size.
L
5'9"–6'1"
175–185 cm
27 mm more standover than M. The largest step in the table is the XS to S one, at 74 mm.
XL
6'0"–6'5"
183–195 cm
Reach grows 20 mm from L while stack grows 14 mm, so the cockpit lengthens more than the front end rises.
XXL
6'4"–6'9"
193–206 cm
Tallest Rockhopper Comp frame, with the highest standover at 853 mm.

Geometry
Stack, reach, and standover for every Rockhopper Comp size, read from the 29-inch columns of Specialized's geometry table. XS has no 29-inch column, so its numbers are the 27.5-inch ones.

Sizing notes
Riders with the same height can need different sizes because inseam, torso length, flexibility, and preferred handling differ.
3 checks
Rockhopper standover is not monotonic: XS is 658 mm, S is 732 mm, and M is 754 mm, but the frame switches wheel size at S, so the S to M step is only 22 mm while XS to S adds 74 mm.
Reach grows 110 mm across the ladder while stack grows 95 mm, so stepping up lengthens the cockpit faster than it raises the front end.
Specialized publishes no rider inseam for the Rockhopper, so height picks the size and standover is the check that decides between two.

Questions
Short answers for Specialized Rockhopper Comp sizing.
Start with the Specialized height band: XS for 142–155 cm, S for 153–165 cm, M for 163–178 cm, L for 175–185 cm, XL for 183–195 cm, and XXL for 193–206 cm. Then confirm standover for the size you land on.
No. Rockhopper uses Specialized's alpha ladder, XS to XXL. S-Sizing with S1 to S6 labels belongs to the Stumpjumper family, so an S3 is not a Rockhopper size.
178 cm sits at the top of Specialized's M band of 163–178 cm and inside the L band of 175–185 cm. M carries 616 mm of stack and 425 mm of reach; L adds 10 mm of stack and 20 mm of reach with 27 mm more standover.
Specialized publishes Rockhopper M for riders from 163–178 cm (5'4"–5'10"). It carries 616 mm of stack, 425 mm of reach, and 754 mm of standover, and it is the last size before the ladder switches to 29-inch-only geometry.
Not in this ladder. Specialized publishes XXS for 130–145 cm on the Rockhopper 26, which is a different frame with its own geometry table, so this page covers XS and up.
