Size chart

Epic 8 Comp size by height

Rider height is Specialized's published Epic chart. Specialized publishes no rider inseam for this family, so the table shows height only.

XS

4'10"–5'1"

148–155 cm

Smallest Epic frame. Stack is 6 mm higher than S, the only place the ladder steps down.

S

5'2"–5'5"

Reach jumps 30 mm from XS while stack drops 6 mm, so this step lengthens the cockpit sharply.

M

5'5"–5'10"

165–178 cm

Most riders start here. Stack and reach above are for this size.

L

5'10"–6'1"

178–185 cm

12 mm more stack than M, against 25 mm of extra reach.

XL

6'1"–6'4"

185–193 cm

Sizing notes

Why height alone is not enough

Riders with the same height can need different sizes because inseam, torso length, flexibility, and preferred handling differ.

3 checks

  1. Epic reach grows 110 mm from XS to XL while stack grows only 25 mm, so stepping up lengthens the cockpit more than four times as fast as it raises the front end.

  2. Standover barely moves: 748 mm at XS, then 755, 760, 769 and 774 mm. Reach and stack decide the size, not clearance.

  3. Specialized's published Epic chart adds XXL for 191–200 cm, which the Epic 8 Comp frame does not build. Treat 193 cm as the top of this ladder.

Questions

Epic 8 Comp size chart FAQ

Short answers for Specialized Epic 8 Comp sizing.

What size Specialized Epic should I ride?

Start with the Specialized height band: XS for 148–155 cm, S for 158–165 cm, M for 165–178 cm, L for 178–185 cm, and XL for 185–193 cm. Then confirm standover for the size you land on.

Is the Epic the same size as the Stumpjumper?

No. Epic uses the alpha ladder XS to XL, while Stumpjumper uses S-Sizing with S1 to S6. An S3 is a Stumpjumper size and has no Epic equivalent.

What size Epic fits a 178 cm rider?

178 cm sits at the top of Specialized's M band of 165–178 cm and at the bottom of the L band of 178–185 cm. M carries 598 mm of stack and 450 mm of reach; L adds 12 mm of stack and 25 mm of reach.

Does the Epic come in XXL?

Specialized publishes XXL for 191–200 cm on its Epic chart, but the Epic 8 Comp frame stops at XL. If you are near 193 cm, check the exact trim before assuming an XXL exists.

How tall is an Epic M for?

Specialized publishes Epic M for riders from 165–178 cm (5'5"–5'10"). It carries 598 mm of stack, 450 mm of reach, and 760 mm of standover.
